Pre-Shiloh Teachings (Pt. 3) - How Demons Gain Access
Our lives consist of several pillars—with our spiritual life at the center. Other key areas include:
- Health
- Finances
- Work or academics
- Life purpose or ministry
- Family
- Relationships
When any of these areas are under attack, the enemy is often seeking access. According to 1 Peter 5:8–9, the devil is looking for an opportunity—he cannot devour everyone. Ephesians 4:26 tells us that the enemy is given place, he doesn’t take it. Except for temptation, all other activities of the enemy are trespasses.
If deliverance is necessary, it means ground has been given to the enemy. John 14:30 reveals Jesus’s testimony: “The enemy has nothing in me.” That must become our own.
When Demons Gain Access
There is a spiritual hedge that surrounds the believer. Access means the hedge is broken—like in the case of Job. This can be caused by:
- Indifference and apathy toward spiritual warfare
- Ignorance, which is the absence of light in a particular area of your life
What Gives Demons Access?
- Unrepentant Sin
Ongoing, unaddressed sin invites demonic activity. (Zech. 3:1)
- Thoughts & Suggestions
Agreeing with fearful or deceptive thoughts opens doors. (Job 3:25)
- Sex
No such thing as casual sex—spirits can transfer. (1 Cor. 6:16)
- Drugs & Alcohol
Alters your senses; lowers spiritual guard. (1 Pet. 5:8)
- Covenants & Dedications
Entered knowingly or unknowingly—still valid spiritually. (Deut. 32:17)
- Evil Altars
Witchcraft altars raised against you create spiritual attacks. (2 Chr. 34:4)
- Idolatry
Invites demons by spiritual alignment. (1 Cor. 10:20)
- Curses (with cause)
A justified curse activates demonic enforcement. (Prov. 26:2)
- Inheritance
Spiritual liabilities passed through bloodlines. (Ex. 34:7)
- Bloodshed
Innocent blood speaks in the spirit. (Gen. 4:10)
- Eye/Ear Gates
Music, Movies etc. What you consume can affect your spirit. (Ps. 101:3)
- Atmospheres & Locations
Some places carry demonic presence. (Ps. 1:1)
- Impartation
Transfer of spirits through laying on of hands. (1 Tim. 5:22)
- Dishonor for Authority
Breaks spiritual covering and invites attack. (Rom. 13:1)
- Trauma
Emotional/sexual wounds can become access points. (Ps. 147:3)
- Unforgiveness
Legal ground for tormentors. (Matt. 18:34)
- Fear
Gives demons something to respond to. (2 Tim. 1:7)
Final Word
Demons don’t gain access randomly. We must guard our lives, reject darkness, and maintain the hedge. The enemy will find nothing in us. “The enemy has nothing in me.” — John 14:30
